BIOGRAPHY

Praised for his “outstanding vocal technique and plush, luxuriant sound” (Cincinnati Classical Concert Review), Canadian-American baritone Søren Pedersen is gaining recognition on opera and concert stages across North America. Pedersen’s 2026/27 engagements include Marullo in Rigoletto with San Diego Opera, Silvio in Pagliacci with Opera Idaho, and his Calgary Philharmonic debut in Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem.

He has previously appeared with San Diego Opera as Schaunard in La Bohème, Prince Yamadori in Madama Butterfly, Aldeano I in Gabriela Lena Frank’s El Último Sueño de Frida y Diego, and Morales in Carmen. Other operatic engagements include Marcello in La Bohème with Opera à la Carte and appearances with Cincinnati Opera’s Opera Fusion: New Works where he workshopped Abbot Cuno in Hildegard and Court Poet in Sleepers Awake, a role he covered with Opera Philadelphia last season.

On the concert stage, Pedersen has appeared in Handel’s Messiah, Schubert’s Mass in G, and Bach’s St. John and St. Matthew Passions. He most recently appeared as the bass soloist in Messiah with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under Cristian Măcelaru.

Pedersen spent the last two summers at Wolf Trap Opera, where he performed in Dialogues des Carmélites and Carmen and returned as Sciarrone in Tosca while covering the title role in Eugene Onegin. He is a prizewinner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and received the Erin Wall Prize in the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Ensemble Competition.

Pedersen holds a Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and undergraduate degrees in music and psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University.
